If you search for “PRL token” you will find more than one coin. The main mix-up is Pearl vs Perle: two unrelated projects that share the same ticker. Price sites and exchanges sometimes show the wrong one first, so it is easy to buy the wrong PRL without noticing. Here is how to tell them apart.
The short answer
- Pearl is a layer 1 blockchain mined with AI matrix math on Nvidia GPUs. Its coin, PRL, lives on its own chain. Addresses start with
prl1. - Perle is an AI data-labeling token on Solana. It is an SPL token with a Solana mint address.
The two share nothing but the ticker: different teams, different chains, different wallets and different markets. A coin bought on one cannot be moved to the other.
Pearl vs Perle side by side
| Pearl (PRL) | Perle (PRL) | |
|---|---|---|
| Chain | Its own layer 1 (Pearl mainnet) | Solana |
| What it is | Proof-of-useful-work coin by Pearl Research Labs, mined on Nvidia GPUs | Token for an AI data-labeling project |
| Address or contract | No contract. Native coin; wallet addresses start with prl1p | Solana mint PERLEQKUNUp1dgFZ8EvyXHdN9d6ZQqfGxALDvfs6pDs |
| Where it trades | SafeTrade, BigONE, CoinEx (PRL/USDT) | Coinbase, Bitget, MEXC, Gate and others |
| Wallets | Pearl wallets such as Pearl Wallet (official desktop) or Oyster | Solana wallets |
Why the PRL token mix-up happens
Tickers are not unique. Any project can pick three letters, and nothing stops two unrelated coins from both using PRL. A few things make the Pearl and Perle mix-up especially common:
- Similar names. Pearl and Perle look and sound almost the same, and both projects talk about AI.
- Big-exchange listings. Perle is listed on large exchanges such as Coinbase, so it can show up first in search results and price apps. Native Pearl trades on smaller exchanges.
- Aggregator defaults. When you type “PRL” into a price site or a portfolio tracker, it usually shows one result first. That result may not be the coin you mean.
- Look-alike tokens. Anyone can create a token called “Pearl” on a smart-contract chain in minutes, which is how the Base tokens below came about.
The fix is the same every time: ignore the ticker and look at the chain. Native Pearl is the only PRL with its own blockchain and prl1 addresses.
Other tokens that look like Pearl
“Pearl Research” tokens on Base
Several tokens named Pearl Research have been created on Base, an Ethereum layer 2, and some appear on Coinbase’s price pages. They are not native Pearl. Native PRL has no token contract at all: it is the base coin of its own chain, the way BTC is on Bitcoin.
Wrapped PRL (wPRL)
wPRL is a wrapped version of PRL on Ethereum. It is a different asset from native PRL, lives at Ethereum addresses and cannot be sent to a prl1 address. Oyster can watch a wPRL balance read-only, but spending it happens on Ethereum.
How to make sure you have the real Pearl
- Look at the address. If you are asked to connect a Solana, Ethereum or Base wallet, or you see a contract or mint address, it is not native Pearl. Native Pearl deposits go to a
prl1address. - Check the network name. On an exchange withdrawal form, the network should be Pearl, not Solana, ERC-20 or Base.
- Check the market. Native PRL trades against USDT on SafeTrade (the largest market), BigONE and CoinEx. It is not on Coinbase or Binance.
- Check the explorer. A native Pearl transaction shows up on explorer.pearlresearch.ai. A Solana or Base transaction will not.
- Start from the source. The project’s home is pearlresearch.ai.
What if I bought the wrong PRL?
Nothing is lost just by holding it, but it is a different asset with its own price. If you meant to buy native Pearl, you would sell the token you hold on the market where you bought it, then buy native PRL through one of the routes in how to buy Pearl. Never try to send a Solana or Base token to a prl1 address.

Frequently asked questions
Is Perle the same as Pearl?
No. Perle is an AI data-labeling token on Solana. Pearl is its own proof-of-useful-work layer 1 blockchain built by Pearl Research Labs. Both use the PRL ticker, but they are unrelated projects.
Is the PRL on Coinbase Pearl?
No. The PRL listed on Coinbase is Perle, the Solana token. Native Pearl is not listed on Coinbase or Binance. It trades against USDT on SafeTrade, BigONE and CoinEx.
What are the Pearl Research tokens on Base?
Several tokens named Pearl Research exist on Base. They are ERC-20 tokens on an Ethereum layer 2, not native Pearl, which runs on its own chain with addresses starting prl1.
Can I send Perle or wPRL to a Pearl address?
No. Pearl addresses start with prl1 and only receive native PRL on the Pearl network. Solana tokens and Ethereum tokens, including wrapped PRL, cannot be sent to them.
